2017 Essay award


The World Congress of Faiths invites students to submit entries for its 2017 Essay Award.

Title of the essay:

If one faith is true, does this mean all others are false?

Content of essay

The text should be approximately 3,000 words, and:

  • discuss how the question arises through experience/encounter
  • make some reference to the literature on the topic
  • engage in analysis and state a clear conclusion


The winner will receive £300 in cash and publication of their winning entry in Interreligious Insight. The Award will be made at the annual Younghusband Lecture, date and venue to be announced, but normally held in London in November.
The winner and no more than six runners up will be invited to tea with the speakers and Trustees on the same day.
All entrants will be granted free membership of the World Congress of Faiths for a year, and free entry to the Younghusband Lecture.


Entrants must be undergraduate or postgraduate students of a UK university at the time of submission.

Submission of text

The text must be approximately 3,000 words, typed in 1.5 line spacing in Word format. It should be sent as an attachment by email to: Jenny Kartupelis, jenny@worldfaiths.org
Entries will be judged anonymously. Therefore do not put your name or any other personal details on the text. Choose a codeword of six to eight letters and use this to head your text. Put all your contact details (term time and home) in the covering email, together with your chosen codeword.


Entries must be received by 5pm on Tuesday 29 August 2017.


All papers will be anonymised. There will be four judges, from Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Buddhist traditions.
